In the year 1936, a man named Hai Mao makes ends meet by begging for alms on the street as a fortune teller. One day, his world is turned upside down when he meets Wu Ruoyun, who is on the run from Captain Hei Sha.

Hei Sha’s parents were killed by Wu Ruoyun’s father, and he’s out for blood. Fearing for her safety, Hai Mao helps Wu Ruoyun escape Hei Sha’s grasp, and along the way, he discovers secrets about his own heritage.
