Prepare to get spooked as a supernatural drama starring Qi Yuwu, Lawrence Wong and Kate Kinney hits screens in August on iQiyi.
The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang is the streaming platform’s first Southeast Asian original series and was shot in Singapore and Malaysia.
It’s a remake of iQiyi’s 2014 series of the same name but given a Southeast Asian setting.
The story follows duo Xia Dong Qing (Lawrence Wong) and Zhao Li (Qi Yuwu) as they assist wandering souls in the mortal world who have unfinished business.
Wong’s character is blessed, or perhaps cursed, with eyes that allow him to see and communicate with beings from other worlds. The pair work at a convenience store that happens to straddle the mortal and spiritual realms.
They are joined by Olivia (Kate Kinney), a woman whom Dong Qing helped to return her soul to her body, after which she decided to join them on their adventures to guide souls to their rightful place.
You can also catch familiar local faces such Tay Ping Hui, Jeanette Aw and Terence Cao in the series.
Qi told media outlets last year while he was filming in Malaysia that he’s not a fan of horror films. “I’m going to pretend we are in a long Halloween party, because I’m scared I will not be able to fall asleep after the horror scenes,” he said.
The Ferryman: Legends Of Nanyang begins streaming on iQiYi in August.
